Christmas Delivery is the eighteenth episode of Season 3, and the thirty-sixth episode overall.
Plot
Oliver meets a woman called Susan, whose husband, Richard, hasn't come home for Christmas from sea. That evening, while waiting for the mail train to depart, Oliver notices the ship Susan mentioned Richard was on, and he was found in a Brendam pub. Oliver offered to take him to Susan in his brake van. On the way, Oliver encounters James stuck in a snow drift, and they set him free using salt.
Oliver makes the special delivery to Susan, and arrives back at the sheds, albeit a bit late, much to Duck's disappointment. The Fat Controller makes his announcement to the engines about the events of the previous year. He tells them he is retiring and that his son, Sir Stephen Topham Hatt, will be the new controller. The party begins and all the engines feel that it truly is a happy Christmas.
