New Beginnings is the sixth episode of Season 1.
Plot
The Mid Sodor Railway is struggling financially, and The Fat Controller pays a visit to the controller, Charles, and pitches a solution. Stuart and Falcon are taken to the Skarloey Railway to help Skarloey and Rheneas. Duke is left in his shed on the Mid Sodor.
Stuart meets Toby at Crovan's Gate, who share stories about their respective closed railways. Meanwhile, at the quarry, Falcon is in a bad mood, and the slate trucks do not make it any better. The trucks decide to push Falcon down the hill. Rheneas saves Falcon by slowing him down, and Falcon explains about his worn brakes and poor maintenance.
The next morning, Stuart and Falcon are given tune-ups, new coats of paint and new names, Peter Sam and Sir Handel respectively.

- Smudger is seen in the end credits, although he doesn't appear in the episode.
- When Toby and Peter Sam get upset, they seem to jerk forward.
