Whispers is the fourth episode of Season 2, and the sixteenth episode overall.

Plot

The Arlesdale Railway is expanding, and Bert has been assigned to the project, thanks to his rebuild making him more powerful than Rex or Mike. A new station and a lead mine is opened.

Bert is speaking to the foreman about the construction, and the foreman mentions that the ground is already suitable, hence the construction is proceeding very quickly. That night, Bert is to take the workmen home when he hears a voice. Bert gets spooked and he tells Rex and Mike, but they do not believe him.

The next day, Mike is coming down the line with a ballast train, and the voice appears again, which spooks Mike too. He goes back to Arlesburgh and meets Bert, telling him about the voice he heard. Bert's driver told the two that his sister is an expert in the local history of the area, and will try to find out a source of the voice. Next morning, Sarah, the historian, came to see the engines and she told them about the Mid Sodor Railway. Two clergymen get bert's train the next day and stop off at the point where the voices have been heard. The men walk up an embankment, and the Fat Clergyman falls through the shed roof. The workmen remove the shrubbery and uncover Duke and his shed. Duke is taken to Crovan's Gate on two lorries to be mended and rebuilt.
