First Impressions is the sixth episode of Season 3, and the twenty-fourth episode overall.

Plot

Henry and Donald are talking about The Fat Controller's plans, and joke at the fact that Gordon has to take a goods train. The two hear a familiar whistle, and Henry mentions a long time feud between Gordon and Alfred. Gordon returns next day to the sheds and Alfred greets him pleasantly, however, Gordon is angry and begins to argue with Alfred about their past. Alfred also meets Diesel at Knapford Yards, and the two do not get along.

Later that day Diesel is angered by the truck's singing and teasing, and accidentally pushes some milk tankers through the buffers and onto the yard tracks. Henry does not see them in time, and derails. Alfred brings the Breakdown Train and The Fat Controller, who scolds Diesel. Alfred was told to haul the Flying Kipper and his milk tankers, and Diesel follows with the rest of the train. Alfred gets stuck on Gordon's Hill, however, and Diesel helps him over the hill. At Barrow-in-Furness, Alfred apologizes and Diesel thanks him. The next day, Alfred delivers the replacement transformer to the Peel Godred branch and he and Stepney leave for the Bluebell Railway.
