Food for Thought is the third episode of Season 2 of Sodor: The Modern Years, and the eighty-third episode overall.

Plot

When dining coaches are introduced on the Arlesdale Railway, Mike doesn't take it too well. 'The Luncheon' as the mid-day train had been renamed, was being taken in turns by the engines. When it was Mike's turn, things go quite well; but a rough start at Arlesdale makes this go all to waste, causing a spill in the second dining coach. Later that day, the Small Controller tells Mike off, and Mike goes and talks to Rex in the shed.

A few days later on a Friday evening, the Small Controller mentions that there will be a wedding the next day, and Bert will take the train, meaning Mike will have to cover 'The Luncheon' for him. Mike is dismayed at this news.

Next day, a food delivery had not appeared at the wedding, and Mike was asked to fetch it. He came up with a plan, and used the dining coaches. He collects the food, and arrives in the nick of time. Emily Helen Hatt, who happened to be maid of honour, came by and congratulated Mike and the other engines for their quick thinking the next day. After this turn of events, Mike changes his views on the dining coaches, thinking they are quite useful after all.
